Upper Mustang Trek
Mustang, commonly known as the district beyond the Himalayas, lies in the northern region of Nepal at the boarder of Tibet. The region was closed to foreigners before 1992 and is now one of the restricted areas and requires a special trekking permit through a registered trekking company to visit. The trek to Mustang is of unique taste as it offers the deserted areas, barren hills, rocky mountains along with spectacular views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Annapurna. The undisturbed natureand Tibetan culture are the key attracting points of the Mustang region.
The Mustang region is also the land of myths. The people here have the stories told over the centuries still with strong faith in them. This arid, vast and windswept corner of the Himalayas lies in the list of the world’s top tourism destinations and is gaining more and more tourists every year. There are only a few thousands of people living in the upper mustang with much of a desolate place better known only by Tibetan pilgrims and yak caravans. This spectacular region with ancient caves and monasteries is famous not only for its unique taste of landscapes but also for archeological sites and remains.
