Trip Overview

The Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is a popular short trek in the Nepali Himalayas. This poonhill trek takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in Nepal, with towering peaks, glaciers, and waterfalls, and ends with a sunrise over the Annapurna mountain range from the top of Poonhill. The trek can be done in 4-5 days, although some people choose to add an extra day or two to explore the area around Ghorepani or to do a longer hike to the nearby village of Ghandruk. The Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is a great option for those who want to experience the Nepal Himalayas without undertaking a longer and more challenging trek. It is also a good choice for those who are short on time but still want to see the best of what Nepal has to offer. The Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is relatively easy, with the highest point reached being Poonhill at 3,210m. However, it is worth noting that the trek does involve some uphill sections, with the descent from Poonhill being particularly steep in places. The best time to do the Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is between October and November when the weather is typically dry and clear. However, it is possible to do the trek at other times of the year, although be aware that the weather can be more unpredictable outside of the main trekking season.

The trek begins in the village of Nayapul, just a short drive from the bustling city of Pokhara. From Nayapul, it is a gradual ascent through river valleys and rhododendron forests to the village of Ghorepani. Along the way, hikers are treated to unbeatable views of some of the world’s tallest mountains, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and Machapuchare (also known as “Fishtail Mountain”).
